Mount Gambier National & Conservation Parks

Mount Gambier has a large number of national parks, conservation parks and forest reserves located around the area. These parks are famous for caves, sinkholes, pine trees, animals and plant life.

Mount Gambier is located on the slopes of Mount Gambier (an extinct volcano) and is inundated with volcanic craters above sea level and the limestone caves beneath. Today, Mount Gambier is the centre of the largest pine plantation and is surrounded by farming, dairy country and viticulture.

Mount Gambier National Parks, Conservation Parks, Forests & Camping

A few of the major parks located close by is the Mount Eccles National Park, Coorong National Park, Wyperfeld National Park, Beachport Conservation Park, Lower Glenelg National Park, Little Dip Conservation Park, Naracoorte Conservation Park, Canunda National Park, Ewens Ponds Park, Discovery Bay Park. There are many other smaller parks and gardens too. These national parks are famous for their large variety of flora and fauna.

Also, the majority of these national and conservation parks have naturally formed caves & sinkholes and are a major hub of research on fossils. While observing these fossils, one can glimpse into the 200,000 to 500,000 years of history of Australia.

The National Parks around Mount Gambier are a major tourist attraction for the city. They are a perfect vacation spot for every kind of tourist.

If you are interested in geology, geography or history, you should take a tour to one of the many caves located within these national parks. If you’re interested in adventure activities, you can indulge in trekking, hiking and camping.
