Alex Roberts 100 Mile Classic

Apart from its unique scenic attractions and many picturesque tourist spots, Mount Gambier boasts an array of yearly events. In particular, Mount Gambier is known to host the world-renowned Alex Roberts 100 Mile Classic. This cycling event is named after the famous cyclist Alex Roberts, who was from Mount Gambier.

This iconic cycle race is one of the most well-known sporting events in this region. The 100 Mile Classic is held twice per year; once in the summer and once in the winter.

The 100 Mile Classic starts at McDonald’s on the corner of Penola Road near the Jubilee Highway West. During the ride, cyclists travel through the Tantanoola township through to Millicent, ride through Glencoe and return back into Mount Gambier for the finish on Bay Road. There is an 800 metre downhill sprint just before the finishing line, and this is where most spectators wait to see the grand finish of this iconic race.

The Alex Roberts 100 Mile Classic is proudly presented and supported by the Mount Gambier Cycling association in collaboration with the Triathlon Club. This prestigious race invites numerous riders from all parts of Australia and abroad to participate. The event is held at various venues across Mount Gambier as the city and its surroundings boast several bicycle racing courses.
