Lake Leake is a lake within an extinct volcano, making up a part of the volcanic trail found in the Kanawinka Geopark, and is located 5 kilometres away from Glencoe.
The lake and surrounding areas are open to visitors all year round. Tourists can come to enjoy fishing (Red Fin, Perch), rowing, sailing, and skiing. Picnic facilities, toilets, and a barbecue are available on site.

From the barbecue area, it’s highly recommended to take a scenic walk through the left-hand route for the best views of the crater lake.
Self-contained campers are welcome to stay on-site overnight, with the fees being set as “by donation”.
Please note these facilities are cleaned every Monday and Friday during the Summer period. During the Winter months, they are cleaned on a Friday. All visitors must take their rubbish with them and take responsibility for helping to maintain this natural environment.
From Lake Leake, visitors can also easily access other popular tourist attractions nearby, including Lake Edward, Mt Muirhead, and Mt Macintyre.
To get here from Mount Gambier, drive along Millicent Road towards Glencoe. Turn right when you see the sign that says Glencoe, then turn and follow the signs.
Didn’t the council stop camping at Lake Leake?
Hi Angie,
Camping is still available, but you must be with a “self-contained camper” as stated on the Wattle Range Council website at https://www.wattlerange.sa.gov.au/tourism/tourism/Towns/glencoe/lake-leake
There are different definitions of what a “self-contained camper” actually is, but the best one i found was a vehicle that “will have the facilities onboard for all personal cooking and bathing, as well as being able to store all rubbish, wastewater and sewerage for disposal outside of the campgrounds”.
Thanks
Michael
