Adventure Caving

Adventure caving is a popular activity for thrill-seeking travellers visiting Mount Gambier.

Just 100km north is the town of Naracoorte, which is abundant with caves and many other exciting activities.

Adventure Caving Novice / Advanced Tours & Prices, Naracoorte Caves SA

Naracoorte Caves is the number one destination for caving in the area. There are tours available to suit all levels from novice to advanced. If you don’t have your equipment, it’s best to go with a pre-arranged tour with a company that can provide you with training, as well as loan you the helmets, overalls, knee pads, and headlights that you’ll need for a fun and safe climb.

The Naracoorte Caves all involve minimal horizontal climbing without the need for rope work. The Stick-Tomato Cave is recommended as an introduction to adventure caving; it’s dry inside and doesn’t have any standing or running water; though it does require some crawling with challenging squeezes. The Starburst Camber and parts of the equally famous Victoria Fossil Cave are ideal for advanced cavers, though you are required to be of reasonable fitness to join.

Fox Cave, which is only accessible via 4WD, is an exciting challenge with its tight entrance, wide passages, high ceilings, and the occasional spotting of bats.

Even if you’ve never tried adventure caving before, the stunning cave formations at the Naracoorte Caves National Park are the perfect opportunity to do so.
