Renowned for its highest number of grape producing lands and wineries, Coonawarra town near Penola, is recognised as one of finest wine regions in South Australia. Coonawarra wineries produce some of the popular and classic white and red wine varieties in the world.

Coonawarra is rich in the bright coloured terra rossa soil, which along with the limestone rich soil and pure underground water creates a favourable setting for the grape plants to grow.

The city of Coonawarra has a number of world class red wine producing wineries especially known for their classic Cabernet Sauvignon apart from their house-special vintage wines. In total, there are 36 Coonawarra wineries and vineyards found in various breathtaking locations in the city of Coonawarra.

Most of the Coonawarra wineries and vineyards offer the cellar door sales and outlets. Cellar dooring and winery tours are some of the most popular tourist activities among tourists to the Coonawarra region.
